Daredevil and the other Defenders shows that were originally on Netflix have now made the move to Disney+, and it appears that a reboot of at least one of those is in the works. The March 16th edition of Production Weekly has listed a “Daredevil Reboot” as having started production. There are no details on the project and Disney+ has made no official announcement at this time. Series star Charlie Cox previously commented that it may not make sense for a continuation to follow directly from the Netflix show:
I don’t think it makes sense to pick up where we left off … In keeping with a lot of things in the MCU now, where there’s this alternate reality thing going on, what they’ve done with Spider-Man, and the animation Spider-Verse, it’s a good time to have this.
A few years have passed. It’s Daredevil but it’s re-imagined, it’s slightly different. Do you know what I texted my friends when I found out this was all happening? ‘Born again’.
Fans have been lobbying for a fourth season of the show since it was cancelled by Netflix in 2018. Whether they will be happy with a reboot remains to be seen. And it is unclear at this point if characters like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher could return with new episodes as well.
Studiocanal and The Picture Company have acquired the rights to C.J. Cooke’s supernatural novel The Lighthouse Witches and they have a television adaptation in the works. Deadline provides the following summary of the story:
The book follows young mother Liv and her three daughters who arrive on a mysterious Scottish island to run a decrepit lighthouse. When single mother Liv is commissioned to paint a mural in a 100-year-old lighthouse on a remote Scottish island, it’s an opportunity to start over with her three daughters–Luna, Sapphire, and Clover. When two of her daughters go missing, she’s frantic. She learns that the cave beneath the lighthouse was once a prison for women accused of witchcraft. The locals warn her about wildlings, supernatural beings who mimic human children, created by witches for revenge. Liv is told wildlings are dangerous and must be killed.
Twenty-two years later, Luna has been searching for her missing sisters and mother. When she receives a call about her youngest sister, Clover, she’s initially ecstatic. Clover is the sister she remembers–except she’s still seven years old, the age she was when she vanished. Luna is worried Clover is a wildling. Luna has few memories of her time on the island, but she’ll have to return to find the truth of what happened to her family. But she doesn’t realize just how much the truth will change her.
The plan is to produce a family-friendly adaptation of the story which is in line with the tone of the novel. No network is currently attached to this project.
