Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to the supernatural drama Dead Day based on the comic of the same name from AfterShock. Vampire Diaries creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson will be onboard as executive producers. Variety gives the following description of the project:
The series follows an ensemble of characters as they navigate the annual “dead day,” when for one night the dead come back to complete unfinished business, be that to celebrate a night back on earth or to torment the living.
The comic’s author Ryan Parrott will be attached to the show as consulting producer. Plec’s My So-Called Company will produce the show for studio Universal Television. This one will likely join Peacock’s lineup of originals later in 2022.
In additional development news, Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice) has come onboard as writer and director for Entertainment One’s live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV series. That one is part of a franchise expansion that includes an upcoming movie. Details on the series are sparse at this point and no network is currently attached.
