An Anime adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim comics is in the works at Netflix with artist/creator Bryan Lee O’Malley onboard as writer and executive producer. The Hollywood Reporter gives the following description of the project:
Part action fantasy, part romantic comedy, Pilgrim centered on the titular slacker and in a garage band named Sex Bob-omb with his friends. His life is turned upside down when he meets Ramona Flowers, an American girl who is recently single. But before their love can blossom, Pilgrim finds himself challenged by his love’s seven previous relationships, and must defeat them in over-the-top fashion.
Universal Studio Group is working in partnership with Netflix on the series and BenDavid Grabinski (Are You Afraid of the Dark?) will be onbaord as showrunner and executive producer. The streamer will be looking to add this to its lineup of originals later this year or early 2023.
FX has given a series order to the time travel drama Kindred based on the Octavia E. Butler book of the same name. The Hollywood Reporter gives the following description for the project:
Kindred centers on Dana (Johnson), an aspiring writer who has uprooted her life of familial obligation and moved to Los Angeles to claim a future that for once feels all her own. Before she can get settled into her new home, however, she finds herself being violently pulled back and forth in time to a 19th century plantation with which she and her family are most surprisingly and intimately linked. An interracial romance threads through her past and present, and the clock is ticking as she struggles to confront the secrets she never knew ran through her blood.
Watchmen alum Branden Jacobs-Jenkins will be onboard as writer and showrunner and the cast includes Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Ryan Kwanten, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy and David Alexander Kaplan.
