HBO Max continues to expand its DC-related offerings, and the streamer is in talks with Viola Davis for a series that would focus on Amanda Waller who appeared in the Suicide Squad movies and also recently in the Peacemaker series. No story details have been released at this point, but it would likely continue to expand on the Waller character who oversees the A.R.G.U.S. organization. That group employs deep undercover missions that often include supervillains trying to work time of their sentences (like Harley Quinn) and/or heroes that have gone astray from the law (like Peacemaker). The Waller character first appeared in DC Comics in 1986 in Legends #1 and was created by John Ostrander, Len Wein, and John Byrne.
Christal Henry (Watchmen) is set to write the series and James Gunn, Viola Davis, and Peter Safran are attached as executive producers. Davis is currently busy with The First Lady on Showtime, but if the Waller spinoff goes forward, production could start later this year.
In additional development news, the pilot for the previously reported Quantum Leap sequel series has received an official order from NBC. That series, which will star Raymond Lee, will take place thirty years after the original and will likely premiere this Fall. There is currently no word on whether Scott Bakula will reprise the character of Dr. Sam Beckett in the new show.
