As Netflix’s Geeked Week continues, an announcement was made that a new Ghostbusters animated series is in the works at the streaming service. Jason Reitman (son of the original movie’s director) and Gil Kenan (Monster House) will write and executive produce the series and it will be part of an expanded universe based on the franchise. A previous cartoon titled The Real Ghostbusters was put out in 1986 and ended up running for seven seasons. J.Michael Straczynksi was involved in the early seasons and the show is considered to be a high-mark for American animation at that time. There is no indication at this point that JMS will be involved with the new animated series.
The sci fi drama Demimonde from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions will not be moving forward at HBO. The premium cable company had won a bidding war with Apple TV+ for the property, but ultimately decided not to continue with the project because the budget surpassed what the network was willing to pay. The Hollywood Reporter gives the following description of the story:
[Demimonde] follows a family — consisting of a mother who works as a scientist, her husband and their young daughter — who all get into a terrible car crash. After the mother winds up in a coma, her daughter begins digging through her experiments in the basement and winds up being transported to another world amid a battle against a monstrous, oppressive force. Her father then follows her into this new world.
Bad Robot will shop the property around to other venues including Apple TV+ and Netflix.
