Sci Fi TV Week in Review: More Hints That a Stargate Series Could Be in the Works at Amazon

Sci Fi TV Week in Review: Johnny Jay’s irreverent, snarky, and caffeine-fueled look back at the past week in sci fi TV in five minutes or less.

It has been another slow week for sci fi TV news, but former Stargate executive producer and showrunner Joseph Mallozzi put out some polls on his Twitter account that should be of interest of the show. Amazon now owns MGM Studios (and they may own you and me soon) and there have been rumblings about a new Stargate series. Mallozzi put out several polls asking what fans would want to see from a new show in the franchise suggesting that work may be progressing on a rvival/reboot. He did not offer any specifics on what may be in development but following are the results from the polls. It will be interesting to see whether studio execs will listen to the feedback of fans as well as the input of those previously involed with the shows, but this at least suggests that something could be moving forward on the Stargate front.

In casting news, two family members will be joining David Tennant in the upcoming second season of Amazon’s Good Omens. His son Ty Tennant will be coming onboard in the role of Ennon, and fellow Doctor Who alum Peter Davison (who is David Tennant’s father-in-law and Ty’s grandfather) has been cast in the role of Alistair. Season 2 is expected to premiere later this year.

In an update on last week’s cancellation announcement, Disney+’s Willow may not be done yet according to the show’s creator. Jon Kasdan claims that even though the cast and crew have been released from their contracts, neither he nor Lucasfilm consider the show to be cancelled. Writing has begun on the second season, and Kasdan believe it will take a year or more for production to commence. For now, though, I am considering the show to be ended based on the Disney announcement.

In ratings news, The CW’s Gotham Knights slipped some to a 0.08 rating with 428K total viewers for its second episode, but those are still decent numbers for that network. Whether it will be enough to keep the show going considering all the changes under the new owners remains to be seen. Over at Netflix, Season 2 of Shadow and Bone premiered at the Number 2 slot in that streamer’s Top 10 for English Language shows, pulling in 50 million hours of viewing. That is a decent start considering it premiered on a Thursday and only covered four days, and that could have it on track for a third-season renewal.
