Starfleet Academy Series Is in the Works, Section 31 Is Still on the Development Slate

Paramount+ has been all-in on the Star Trek franchise the last few years and just recently issued renewal announcements for most of its Trek shows. And in addition to that, more shows are on the way according to franchise executive producer Alex Kurtzman. A Starfleet Academy series has been rumored for years and that one is currently early in development with Gaia Violo (Blood & Treasure) attached as executive producer. The series would follow “the college of cadets mentored for leadership roles in the United Federation of Planets space force” according to Kurtzman.

A Section 31 series has also been talked about over the last couple of years and that is on the development slate as well. That would see Michelle Yeoh return as Philippa Georgiou leading the covert intelligence organization that hides in the shadow of Starfleet. Neither show has received an official greenlight from Paramount+ yet, but both are likely to move forward as the streamer continues to expand the franchise.

In additional development news, Paramount+’s upcoming Halo series will have a new showrunner if it continues for a second season.  That one has gone through many behind-the-scenes shake-ups throughout its long development process, and now it will be losing one more of its crew members.  Showrunner and executive producer Steve Kane will be stepping down, claiming that he wants to spend more time with his family.  So a new showrunner will be needed if the show one heads to a second season and Fear The Walking Dead‘s David Wiener is currently under consideration.   The first season is set to premiere March 24th.
