The CW has started placing orders as it gears up for pilot season and two genre entries are on the board already. The network has given the greenlight for the Supernatural prequel The Winchesters as well as the DC comics series Gotham Knights. The former will have original series star Jared Padalecki onboard as executive producer and Deadline gives the following description for the project:
The drama is centered on Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents – John and Mary – and tells the epic love story of how they met and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world. It will be told through the perspective of narrator Ackles’ Dean Winchester.
The CW previously attempted to launch Supernatural spin-offs with Bloodlines and Wayward Sisters, both of which aired as episodes during the show’s original run. But neither was picked up to series despite the fact that fans lobbied hard for the latter series. It is unlikely that Jeffery Dean Morgan will reprise his role as John Winchester since the show will focus on a younger version of the character.
Gotham Knights comes from Batwoman alums Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams and Deadline gives the following description for the project:
In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.
According to Deadline, this show is not linked to Batwoman and would probably not be considered an Arrow-verse show. Both pilots had previously been announced as projects in development and they will be under consideration for the network’s Fall 2022 lineup.
