Amazon Studios has given the greenlight to a live-action Blade Runner television series with Ridley Scott attached as executive producer. To be titled Blade Runner 2099, no details are currently available on central storyline of the series, but it will act as a sequel to the 1984 Blade Runner film by Scott as well as 2017’s follow up Blade Runner 2049 which was directed by Denis Villeneuve. Silka Luisa (Strange Angel) is currently attached as the head writer. Amazon has made this a “priority” development project which means they will be moving it to production as soon as possible. The animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus just wrapped up its first season on Adult Swim and Crunchyroll. There is no word at this point on whether that one will continue into a second year.
Norman Reedus is wrapping up his eleven season stint on The Walking Dead this year and he already has his next project in the works. He will be teaming up with the Jim Henson Co. as well as Brian and Wendy Froud to create a fantasy series that will be populated with “an entirely new universe of characters” according to Variety. Details on the show are sparse, but Reedus and the Frouds will be developing the story and the characters and he had the following to say about the artists and the Jim Henson Co:
They are masters in the fantasy world-building space. I mean, a show about goblins, trolls and otherworldly creatures? There’s nobody in the universe better suited for that than the Henson Company.
No network is attached at this point, but the show should draw plenty of interest.
