Dead Boy Detectives Is One of Two DC Projects in the Works at HBO Max

The previously announced Dead Boy Detectives TV series has received the official greenlight at HBO Max. Based on the DC comic by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions will be moving forward with the show. Following is the official logline:

[Dead Boy Detectives is] a fresh take on a ghost story that explores loss, grief, and death through the lens of Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland…and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace. It’s a lot like a vintage detective series — only darker and on acid.

Steve Yockey (Supernatural, Scream: The TV Series) will be attached as showrunner, and it will be linked to the same universe as Doom Patrol where the Dead Boy Detectives previously made an appearance. HBO Max will likely be targeting a late-2022 or early-2023 premiere date.

Another DC project is headed to HBO Max with You Brought Me The Ocean which is based on the young adult graphic novel by Alex Sanchez and Jul Maroh. Deadline gives the following description of the project:

It follows Jake Hyde, who doesn’t swim, but moves to college on the coast. There’s nothing safe about Jake’s future, not when he’s attracted to swim team captain Kenny Liu, although he struggles to come out.

But Jake is full of secrets, including the strange blue markings on his skin that glow when in contact with water. What power will he find when he searches for his identity, and will he turn his back to the current or dive headfirst into the waves?

Charlize Theron will be onboard as executive producer and this one could arrive later this year or early-2023.
