AMC has another Walking Dead spin-off in the works and this one will focus on long-time characters Maggie and Negan. It will be titled Isle of the Dead and Deadline gives the following synopsis:
Isle of the Dead sees Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.
Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise their roles and TWD veteran Eli Jorné will serve as showrunner. Six episodes have been ordered, and the show will debut at some point in 2023. It is unclear at this time whether this will be approached as a limited series or if it could have a multiple-season run. The anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead is set to debut later this year and a Daryl and Carol spin-off show is also in the works.
Amazon is currently in talks to pick up a live-action series based on the PlayStation God of War video games. That fantasy franchise focuses on the Spartan warrior Kratos and pulls from Greek and Norse mythology. Sony Pictures Television will produce the series and Amazon will likely be looking at a 2023 premiere for the show should it go forward.
The previously announced HBO Max Gotham P.D. television series, which would have been a spin-off from The Batman, has been put on indefinite hold according to Matt Reeves. Creative differences resulted in the departure of showrunner Terence Winter, and now there is a possibility that an Arkham Asylum show will replace the police procedural. Reeves had the following to say about the possible direction that one could take:
We’ve actually now [moved] more into the realm of exactly what would happen in the world of Arkham as it relates coming off of our movie and some of the characters and their origins… almost leaning into the idea of… it’s like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.
Nothing is officially in the works at this point, so stay tuned for further developments. A Penguin spin-off series from The Batman is currently in the works at HBO Max and the unrelated Gotham Knights received a pilot order from The CW.
