Twisted Metal Live-Action Series in the Works, Outlander Prequel Headed to Starz

The previously announced television adaptation of the Twisted Metal video game has been picked up by the Peacock streaming service.  This will be a live-action comedy series, and the MCU’s current Captain America Anthony Mackie with star and executive produce.  The Hollywood Reporter gives the following description of the project:

Mackie will play John Doe, a smart-ass milkman with no memory of his past who gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.

The series will come from Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions with Universal TV also onboard.  Deadpool veterans Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been attached as executive producers with Cobra Kai‘s Michael Jonathan Smith pegged as showrunner.  The series will be targeting a late 2022 or early 2023 debut.

In additional development news, Starz has announced that a prequel to its historical fantasy series Outlander is in the works.  The showrunner for the main series Matthew B. Roberts will write and executive produce the prequel, and Ronald D. Moore will be onboard as executive producer as well.  No details are available about the new series at this point, and Starz will likely be looking to get it on the 2022-23 schedule.
