Two Sherlock Holmes Spin-Off Shows in the Works at HBO Max, Orphan Black Follow-Up Gets Greenlight at AMC+

Apparently Warner Bros. is looking to expand its Sherlock Holmes universe similar to what it has done with the DCEU, and two separate shows are in the works at HBO Max based on the movie franchise that stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. There is little in the way of details on the new shows at this time other than each will focus on a specific character both of whom will be introduced in the upcoming third film in the series (which has been delayed due to the pandemic but could arrive later this year). The shows are being likened to the DCEU Peacemaker spin-off which premiered on HBO Max earlier in the year and the upcoming Penguin series that will be based on the character introduced in The Batman.

Robert Downey Jr. will executive produce the shows along with his wife Susan, though it is unlikely that he will have much screen time in either. A cameo appearance is certainly possible, though. Since these shows will be drawing heavily from the upcoming third film, they will likely debut at some point after that hits the theaters. So it could be late 2022 or early 2023 before they arrive on HBO Max.

The previously mentioned Orphan Black spin-off series, to be subtitled Echos, has received an official greenlight and will be heading to the AMC+ streaming service (the original aired on BBC America).  AMC gives the following description for the show:

Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Anna Fishko (Fear the Walking Dead, The Society) will be onboard as showrunner and writer and Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett will be involved as executive producer.  There is no word at this point on whether Tatiana Maslany or other actors from the original series will be involved with the production. Expect Echos to be targeting a late 2022 or early 2023 premiere.
